Could use help with a Holley carb issue. (Page 1/1)

At least I think it may be a carb issue?

Engine = SBC 350
Carb = Holley 8105B w/non-adjustable floats

With a full tank when I take a quick tight turn the engine will sputter hard or stop running. No back-fire.
First thing that comes to mind is float adjustment.

From what I understand these floats come set pretty high?

I'm looking for some insight on this situation.

TIA.

I don’t have same engine or carb
But my setup uses a Holley 4 barrel , you could pop sight lug and check fuel levels but if it only happens on a corner you might need the side hung floats

1. What OE Engine was in the car?
V6 has High Pressure F-pump that can be hard to regulate F-pressure to very low pressure most Carbs need.

2. How did the swap regulate F-pressure?
External Regulators need 3 port type. 1 fuel in, 1 fuel out to carb, 1 return.
F-Flow is Coolant and Lube to the F-pump and need return from regulator to "generate" constant flow.

3. Because messing up 1. and/or 2. can cause carb "float problems."

4. Only when Tank is Full?
May have F-pump or tank or Electric problems.
Electric problems could be anywhere as is w/ OE engines but more w/ swamps.
ALDL G is/was a Test Port to watch F-pump power. Could just put a light on G to Frame to see F-pump is On as far as Power To.
F-pump also needs Ground and G wouldn't tell you F-pump has iffy ground wire. OE ground wire is/was from the tank to 2 connections in the Cabin.

While Tank has Ground wire attach on/in that... Many think can Ground thru the Tank Straps etc but Do Not count on that.

5. Many Holley and other Carbs and other parts are not made for Transverse Engine Setups used in Fiero and other swaps.
So maybe use "Wrong" carb...
Or You take Inline engine and the Transverse mount it and do nothing then Oil Pan can "empty" Turning as O-pump go dry because oil will stay away from pickup. If O-pump pressure is connected F-pump wiring sim to OE wiring then Low/No O-pressure might case No power to F-pump. Is part why OE wiring has F-pump relay and OP sender switch.

Longitudinally mounted small block chevy 350 adapted to a TH325. New mechanical fuel pump & fuel filter, recently cleaned fuel tank. The 8105B Holley does not have sight holes unfortunately. The floats come pre-set from factory & you cannot adjust them from the outside. Now that I've done a bit more research I am seeing people bend the floats a bit to lower the levels. I took the plugs out & their was a great deal of carbon fouling. That to me confirms that I'm probably running to rich. It smells like it too.

I cleaned the old plugs.
I'm going to make new spark wires for the fun of it.
I'll go ahead bend the float arms up a bit.
Set the carbs base settings.
Try to start it up.
If it runs I'll get the base timing where I can play with it.
See if I can replicate the problem.
If the problem goes away I'll inspect the plugs.
If the plugs look good I'll swap in new plugs and fine tune the timing.

Hoping this plan of attack does the trick.
