Water leaks (Page 1/1)
str8maxn JUN 21, 11:30 AM
Hello all,

Seems I have a few water leaks ... Need some help.

The first one, comes from front windshield. After washing the Fiero and taking it for a ride. My shoes and pants were wet. It appears to be coming down directly above the peddles. Any Ideas on a fix ?

The second leak comes from the moon roof. Ever since I changed out the moon roof hardware ; Seems I could never get a good seal.

Thank you all for any insight ...

Sorry to hear about leaks. I have never had one leak under the steering wheel area. Maybe a bad seal around lower windshield? All of my Fieros have leaked with a sunroof. They usually leak right where the opener handle is. My first Fiero that I had in 1993 also leaked and now my new one (86 GT) also leaks in the same place. Since I keep her in the garage I just deal with it when it happens (usually a small leak after washing her). Not that big of a deal. You can get a new sunroof seal kit at the Fiero Store. Good luck!

If the drain holes aren't plugged, then water won't leak into the cabin even with the roof open.

I'd recommend that you remove the panel completely and check the drain holes in each corner. I have three Fieros with sunroofs, none of which leak. I can drive them in the pouring rain (which occurs a lot here) with the roof panel raised (or closed), and water does not enter the cabin.

I guess the point I'm making is that the rubber seal against the glass is not what keeps the water out.

my sunroof tends to not close correctly, and that's the only time its leaked. when i open it, the passenger side tab likes to come out maybe 1/4", so the panel doesn't settle right. if i reach my hand up through the gap and push it forwards, then close it, that usually gets it. sometimes from the outside after closing it i have to push that side forward though. i'll check those holes next time i take out the panel

Do you have the two plastic tabs/bushings in place?

I bought tabs from the Fiero Store and they are not as rigid as the original. TFS tabs flexed too much and wouldn't pull the front of the glass snug enough to the seal which caused some of my issues. I obtained some original tabs and the glass sealed perfectly at the front. Now I have issues at the rear and I can only guess it's the latch. It only leaks with torrential rain or direct water from a car wash. I also replaced the tracks with stainless steal ones and put a new gasket in from the Fiero Store. Pain in the but but it helped. Hope this helped.

Well, that's no doubt contributing to your roof panel being cocked off a bit and not closing quite right.

You shouldn't have any trouble accessing them.
