Check Engine Light does not give codes. (Page 1/1)

I just switched back to original dash from digital because engine light never went on to get codes and I think my 1986 GT is running rich. When I try to get codes, it doesn't flash and the EGR has been deleted so do they disable it when they take the EGR out?

You're not giving us much to work with. Does the CEL bulb ever illuminate? If it does, but doesn't flash Code 12 when checking for codes, I suspect your ECM is toast.

Really because it ran fine before before I had to take the head off because a little ball bearing rolled in where I took the injector out. I bought it and took these pods for vacuum and boost out that was wired to the ECM and a wire that was wired in to a knock sensor that I took out because someone said they don't use one. Only thing I found was nothing out of the TPS even the new one. The light didn't work on the digital dash but the original one stays on. It starts hard and idles crappy.

ECM maybe ok but when the PROM/MEMCAL in it has "Mods" to "delete something" then the Programmer can "Delete" code display thru CEL light and even No Data Stream for ECM Scanners.

Many "Hotrod Chips" sold for old GM ECMs do just that.

Find OE Chip, reinstall, and see if get code 12 at minimum then drive should get EGR and maybe other codes.

Ok will any original prom in ECM work and if so the light will stay on because there is no EGR?

Any v6 work for just testing the CEL but need right prom for trans used too or will have idle and other problems...
Example: ⚠️ unknown prom then unplug auto trans Before Driving to disable TC lockup. Because Same ECM pin controls TC locking or Shift Light depending on program in the prom. Small plug is on front of auto trans.
