Old Gremlins? 84’ wiring issue (Page 1/1)

Hey everyone I’m new to the forum here. I have a question about my newly acquired 1984 Pontiac Fiero 2M4. When testing out all functions I’m having an issue where when I try to turn on any of the climate controls the wiper and washer motor activate!!! Is this a bad turn signal arm? I’m going over all electrical diagrams and I’m not seeing where these systems connect. It does have a wrong clutch safety switch but I’ve sourced a part and have a new correct part on order. However I don’t think that is the cause. Any one can help me out I would really appreciate it. Thx.

1. 84 has a lot of 84 Only Wiring. Do Not trust Haynes and most others. use alldatadiy.com to get GM data cheap.

2. Most or all 84 Wiper Delay is under the Dash. Not in the Wiper Motor.
Delay Boards can die from old age or a symptom of other parts bad.
Capacitors on it die for age but burn traces is often bad motor or other things making motor to pull a lot of power.

3. Hitting AC/Heat controls turns on/off relays, motors, AC Clutch Coil, etc.
And many of them can make power surges that f's other things. Worse when some have Blown Diodes that is surge suppression. Example: AC Clutch Coil Plug have a Diode for this and often fails. Other Relays often have hidden diodes too and most doc's don't mention this.

So you may have a "dead" delay board and other things making it more problems.
You can't get "standalone" delay boards now.
If the capacitors are bad, maybe can replace those.
