Dog bone misalignment (Page 1/1)
Cliff Pennock JUN 30, 09:03 AM
I just noticed the poor state of my engine's dog bone and the fact it's misaligned. It looks like the engine is hanging to the left. I already have another dog bone but I'm wondering if the fact that the engine is leaning left a bit is because of the state of the dog bone, or the state of the dog bone is because the engine is leaning left due to some other problem... Thoughts?

Check all of the mounts - both tranny mounts and the one under the harmonic balancer.

I suspect the left rear tranny mount....

The rubber looks toast to me. Time for poly..
Double on that on the motor and trans mounts…..prob same condition.

The dogbone's job is to keep the drivetrain from rotating fore and aft... not to try and keep the drivetrain from exiting the driver's side of the engine bay.

My dog bone in my duke looked kinda like that once. It was after i bent 2 push rods and broke the rear left transmission mount and the right middle (front of the engine mount) honestly the left front mount wasn't really connected either it was just the metal fail safety bracket holding it. I locked up the rear end dropping it into second around a corner ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yup, bad motor/trans mounts is likely.

L4 w/ "liquid filled" engine mounts like to fail and pull some other way to the right can also cause the alt pulley to hit the strut tower for 87-88 L4.

I will go with worn mounts as well. They are over 30 years old and were not designed to last forever. They are common mounts sold by Rock Auto and other retailers here in the USA. They are not expensive. Maybe someone here can buy them and send them to you as "gifts" so that you can avoid the regressive import taxes imposed by your country. You might also be able to adapt a generic poly mount available locally.
