First post by the way.... I am original owner 88 Gt 2.8 V6 5 - speed Looking to upgrade alternator as I have added a subwoofer and amplifier ( Crutchfield is awesome) new stereo system. Looking for something that won't require a bunch of modifcation

Do you know what alternator your car came with stock? I have the 94 amp one stock and I have had no problems with an 800 watt sub and a 250 watt amp. With the music blasting on a song with a lot of bass, the needle just barely moves to the point where its hard to even notice. Oh yeah and I usually have my AC blasting as well, never have had a problem with charging.

I believe all the 88s came stock with the 94 amp "high output" alternator.

Have you considered adding some capacitors?

Your existing alternator can be rebuilt to a higher rating.

Many 87-88 have "94 amp" CS130 alt as OEM. Some have "105 amp" often from replacing alt before. This is Max Unit made by GM and many others w/o playing various "tricks." "Amps" advertise are Peak Amps w/ Alt Shaft turning ≥ ~ 5000 RPM.

Upgrading the alt likely isn't going to help for your Muzac... Enough capacitors can for same charging system.
Even if Volt meter never drops for the beat because many meters are slow response to read spikes loads/volts but ECM etc can have problems.

You don't need to upgrade the alternator unless you are doing some sound competitions that require some crazy power. Your alternator should be the CS130 105 amp, which is better than the older fieros.
