86 V6 wont fire up (Page 1/2)

Hi Guys,

this time i need some help.
Went to a gas station filled it up and it wont fire up after.
It had a "dry sound".
Checked fuel on lined to the engine and found it ok (can not measure pressure).
Pick up coil looked bad, but measured by 900ohms. Found link to ground on one end of it.
Replaced pick up coil, shortened ECM for service mode and it is now willig to fire up, but does not..

Did not mark the position of the distributor, set the crankshaft to the mark and the distributor on cylinder one.
It always try's, there is some fire up, but not really starting.

Any clue?

Best regards

When cranking, do you get a reading on the tachometer?
olejoedad JUL 19, 10:53 AM
If you do have a tachometer reading, play with the timing.

Tryed it today with start pilot, no difference.
Can a pick up coil get bad on shelf?

Meassured by 850 Ohms

Do you have spark? Take off a spark plug lead, insert a metal screwdriver into the lead where the plug goes, and hold the screwdriver so the rest of the metal rod is nearly touching a ground. I use the plenum bolts. then have someone crank it and see if spark jumps to the bolt

I think this means that it's coughing, like it's firing but not starting, correct?

Double check your timing.

yes, exactly.
I think i will try another pick up coil.
With the old pickup couil it did not even think about fire up, with the new it is at least trying to.
The bad thing was, i have nit marked the positon of the distibuter bevore i took it out.
So i try to set it from the mark on the crankshaft.
