Standalone Knock Sensor? (Page 1/1)

Does anyone know how to add a standalone knock sensor where the engine did not have one originally and the PCM does not support a knock sensor? I have seen some options on line but they are pricey.

Using a knock sensor with 85 ECM - requires a reprogrammed PROM.

Maybe the early Buick standalone ESC can give some ideas.

I have no interest in having a knock sensor retard timing. The application is a Cadillac 4.9L with an Allante intake manifold. The Allante did not use an EGR and I am concerned without the EGR, the engine may knock under part throttle, heavy load conditions. I could trust my ear and adjust timing tables accordingly but am looking for a more precise way to detect knock.

Gotcha. You want to "hear" better.

Interesting - cheap enough to give it the first try.
