Disassembling the climate control panel? (Page 1/1)

So since I have basically gutted the interior and it's going back together now, I'm considering changing the dash lighting to blue. I only have to deal with the main gauge cluster over the column and the climate control panel. The gauge cluster is easy, disassemble, change orange inside to white, add blue LEDs. The climate control has one bulb I believe same as ash tray lights, has anyone out there taken apart the actual control head? Need to change the orange to white there as well but want know if it's even worth considering doing in terms of risk of breaking something...............

Unscrew the unit and slide it forward. There is a socket right behind the face which (if I remember), unscrews a 1/4 turn and then pulls out.

Not about removing bulb but rather changing inside color from orange to white and then dyeing bulb blue.

Ah ok, I should have read your post a little better. I've taken mine apart and have seen the light diffuser bar but I can't remember if the bar is painted orange or the back of the gauge faces are orange.

Edit to add...............This is from another thread if it helps.

Gauges are easy, the HVAC is near impossible. There is a light that shines through some clear plastic. Fibre optic like. The orange is painted on the back of the symbols. You would have to sand them off, but sand too far and the symbol dissapears. This was my dilemma and i chose to go for it, nope, sanded too far. Now im trying to figure out how i can either replace it or get new symbols.

In all due honesty if you wanted to try something like this, I'd ask Pat (Handymanpat) in the Mall if he has an extra unit. You'd get it for a great price and could use it as a test unit. Just a thought.

I know Pat well and we've already touched on this possibility.
