Engine Conversion (Page 1/1)

My first time posting and I am seeking information concerning what is a reasonable time for a performance shop to complete and engine and transmission swap on a 1988 Fiero GT. My vehicle has been at a shop since July 7, 2020. I contracted to have a 5 speed getrag and 3800 SC engine installed. During my last vehicle inspection the shop owner agreed to have the build completed NLT 31 October 2022. I anticipate the build will not be finished by the agreed upon date and have told the shop owner that he is to stop working on the vehicle as of 31 October 22 when we will clear up any financial issues. I will then take possession of the vehicle and attempt to have the project completed by another ship. My question for the Fiero community is what is a reasonable length of time for such a project to be completed? Any input will be most welcome.

Yikes! That sound like a terrible shop.

It took me about 10 days to swap in an LT1 V8 and I had never done such a thing before. So if you have any mechanical skills/knowledge it shouldn't take you long.

A knowledgeable and reputable shop should be able to do it in a couple of weeks. We've had several knowledgeable shops dedicated to Fieros that became disreputable and took years or never completed the jobs. Be sure you have spare keys if you have to forcibly recover the car.

This may not end well.
