Perfect idle (Page 1/1)

Hey there. I have been working on restoring an 84 Fiero for 2 years and finally, its back on the road. Once the car is warmed up, the idle is about 650 rpm. I little rough and the console shakes a little but the car doesn't stall. What is the perfect idle for an 84 Fiero? If its higher than 650 rpm, how can I increase it slightly? Can I adjust the IAC value stem? Any help would be appreciated.

Warming Up means very little to Idle issues.
Anytime ECM loses backup power then ECM must "Reset" the IAC motor and means you have to drive > 35mph/57kph on most GM OBD1 vehicles.
Backup is not main power that turns on CES or runs the engine. Has own connector in engine bay or remove the battery cable(s) end from battery.
(Some later OBD1 models would Reset the IAC if parked and push gas pedal to hit ~ 2200+ RPM. In Fiero only applies to 87-88 w/ 4cyl.)

Idle RPM also depends on Transmission Type and in case of AT "in gear" or not.

If cold to really cold, low temp of ECT and others can make Idle RPM higher. Up to 2000+ when first started even if the ECM says IAC Reset is true/yes.
If you push gas pedal, ECM may ignore you if engine is cold and keep Idle high 1000-1500 for a few miles.
If Idle Stays High for long then check for Vac Leaks.

Dukes has often "rough idle" and somewhat normal to that engine but if have "rotten" or Polly engine/trans mounts etc then will have more vibration in the cabin.
Auto Trans Dukes More so because AT in Drive will load the mounts etc all the time.
