When a gauge and sender deals w/ 0 - 90Ω, it doesn't take much to cause problems. (Oil pressure is same.)
Often Iffy wiring for the sender or even iffy + or ground causes gauge problems. Gauges have other connection besides obvious plugs in the dash that often has problems...

Test sender @ C502 in the engine bay on firewall below where all wires go thru the wall w/ an Ω meter. Pink and Black wire.
Test when near empty and full and at other marks on gauge.
But Note that while GM spec says 0 - 90Ω may not be fully accurate. Sender may read a bit higher if you "top off" the tank or Station Pump Nozzle "trips off" late. IOW you often get 91 - 95Ω on a meter and often the gauge is past the full mark.

If possible, Lock Meter Range to Ω not MΩ etc. (Many cheap units only auto range whatever.)
If a meter has a REL button, short the probe and push it to Zero the metter.
No REL button the remember reading shorting out the probe and Minus that # from all reading for that session.

If really is the sender...
Only option is use TFS or other 3rd party "universal" units.

But Later years the fuel sender has a cover that has 3 tabs on the base bend over to hold it.
Often Can be clean or fix.

Example: small spring on the "arm" holds the "arm" tight enough to get a good ground. That spring etc get crap on them and won't ground right. Or the spring can go bad.

Important Note: "Empty" on the gauge is Not = to Dry or Even the F-pump is sucking air before gauge starts saying empty.
Even when the pump is sucking air... Fiero Tank design often still holds 1 gallon. At 2 gallons pump often get gas but gauge still says "empty" because sender just barely reads fuel level that low if it reads at all.

IOW For 87-88 Fiero GM spec states 11.5 Gallons Cap but Gauge often say "Empty" using ~ 9.5 - 10 even on flat ground because the Sender's Float needs some depth to work and register in the sender and then gauge even if everything is 100%.

good evening the purple wire has power to the top of the sender ..power not going to the fuel pump through the top of the sender I need a new sender or a used sender thank you

Has power that burn the sender? Ouch.
The gauge likely is bad too...
Gauge or resistor on back of same can short out and fry the sender.
If the sender wire short to "12v" then can fry the sender but also the gauge.

If it’s wiring issue in the bulkhead connector on tank, that can be replaced with parts from Racetronix.
