88 rear cradle into 84 (Page 1/1)

Looked back at past threads and see that biggest deal is the strut location. Held (no longer in business) made an adapter plate to move the strut inwards and forward. A new hole was required in the top of the strut tower for the top stud of the strut. This approach apparently also required coilovers with smaller diameter springs to clear the ID of the strut tower. In lieu of the Held adapter some people apparently drilled new holes for the strut mounting studs in the top of the strut tower. Does anybody have any drawings of an adapter plate or where to drill new holes in the strut tower?

However, one person said that this could all be avoided by modifying the lower strut mounting ears to provide more camber adjustment. However, this would not move the top of the strut forward which would mean that the outboard of the forward suspension link would sit higher than rear suspension link. Any opinions on whether this is a big deal? It doesn't feel right.

I have done this in my 85...big improvement; eliminates most of the bump-steer and rides better also.

Here is a diagram showing the measurements for relocating the top of the strut, and a picture of the Held adapters.

You must move the strut-top inward but moving it forward did move my rear wheels off-center in the wheelwell....Limit that movement as much as you can (You do have to clear the mounting screw (Possibly you could drill another hole)

Someone was producing those adapters again, relatively recently.

I'll look and see if I can find them.

Edit - Sluppy123 had some of them. Bushings weren't easy to source, however.
