Oil leaking from passenger side dash (Page 1/1)

So I have oil leaking from the dash on the passenger side and down on to the floor matt. I figured this was refrigerant oil since the AC condenser is right where its leaking from. I bought a new condenser and installed it. It is still leaking oil from the same spot. Also it doesn't seem like the original condenser even had a leak. What else could this oil be?

How about antifreeze... from your leaking heater core?

Sorry, not trying to make light of the situation... but all of us who've had a Fiero for any length of time have been there, done that.

I've heard the heater core on the A/C model is a PITA to change. My non-A/C car was so easy.

No.
But many need to pull the right side speaker to remove 1 screw holding the core cover.
Can remove that from bottom if can reach and many aren't flexible for many reasons.

I just had a heater core blow out Monday morning. The resulting leak has a very oily feel, so it could be mistaken for oil. Because I've replaced the heater core before, I always leave the top screw out that holds the cover. To easily access that screw, the right speaker must be removed. The cover will stay in place without that top screw. It only took less than an hour to replace the heater core.

You will find that all heater cores made today are about 1/4 inch shorter than the original cores. Be sure the core is held in place by the metal band at the left end of the core. Don't install the cover until you have the hoses reconnected because the core tends to pop out of the metal band as you install the hoses. There's not much you can do about the gap at the other end unless you do what the manufacturer told me to do. They said to use some aerosol foam insulation to fill the gap on the other end. I wouldn't recommend doing that. The heater will still work properly.

Oh, and dry as much of the coolant as you can from inside the box while the core is out to reduce creating an oily film on the windshield. Also reach around inside and remove any leaves and such.

If you have AC, check to make Dam sure the Blend door is completely closed when slide knob is slid to cold!
