Hard shifting and intermittent clutch function (Page 1/1)

Ok I'm at a loss and hoping someone here can help point me in a direction to start. For one my shift lever randomly gets very hard to move side to side. I've lubed up cables and the mechanisms front and rear. But has not helped. Seams after car warms up while driving it just all at once goes hard to shift. Second issue and usually occurs at same time is the clutch pedal goes soft and clutch will not disengage fully. Today when it happened it would not release. I drove it home with no clutch shifting by sound and feel. Left it sit for about 45 mins and when I restarted it clutch was back but still side to side shift movement was hard. Any ideas on this. Where should I start

Maybe mention the year of your Fiero and which transmission it has!

The 5-spd Getrag select cable is notorious for internally corroding and eventually binding up.

Hard shifting due to hydraulic issues has been covered here a million times.

I'm new here so I may not know where to look for the million times post. My cars year is an 87 gt and it has the 5 speed getrag trans

Thanks for the help guys. I replaced both my master and slave cylinders and while I was at it replace the slave piston with Rodney's upgrade kit. My issue was a combo of a bad select shift cable and a rusty slave cylinder with a worn out seal. She shifts like a dream now

I'm kind of having the same issue with my 87 GT, already have a new master and slave, I'll check the cable.
