factory subwoofer- amp question (Page 1/1)

Hello

I just ordered a Monsoon unit from FieroTom and have a rodney subwoofer. It looks like I am missing the factory amp. What amp is recommended (Assuming somethign aftermarket, not the original 35 year old AMP)? Don't need something huge.

Any links or threads on how this is installed would be appreciated

I have a factory subwoofer that I plan to install in my '88 GT. I found it in a yard but no factory amp was present. I have an aftermarket stereo with a low level subwoofer output. I'm planning to try one of these

KEMO 40W Power Amp

It's a small monaural amp and I think 40W will more than drive that small subwoofer. I have some details to work out but I think this amp will fit the bill nicely.

Thanks. I plan to run an F Body Pontiac stereo (slightly newer than my 88 Fiero). I know nothing about car audio, so I will see how this little 40W unit would wire into it to run the subwoofer. I agree that 40W should be plenty to run that subwoofer

What dash and B trim speakers are you running?

At present, my in-dash speakers are Pyle PLX4102 4x10's. I had them lying around and they seem to have somewhat better low end than the Sony's the PO installed. In the pillars I have Sony 4x6's that matched the aforementioned 4x10 Sony's. In the front I also added these foam baffles

4x10 Foam Baffles

I may add similar 4x6 baffles in the pillars (XTC does make them).

I'm not at all sure my existing 4x10 won't hit the subwoofer enclosure (its got a big magnet and is bigger/deeper than the factory speaker. If that happens, I'll probably use adapter plates and install round speakers (or just see if the Sony's can go back in).

If you want to run that KEMO amp from a radio without a low level output you may have to use an adapter like this one

Line Level Adapter

to avoid overdriving the amp's input with the speaker outputs of the radio.
