another issue now grrr (Page 1/2)

Ok - here goes
This morning the engine sounded rough there was some higher than normal revs yesterday which took some time to die down then this morning there was some smoke I jumped the aldl and got code 22 TPS so after searching on here I checked with a multi meter the voltages which matched the ones in the video posted on here - dis connected the battery to reset started up and again was rough as if it was mis firing - changed the rotor, distributor cap and changed the spark plugs (forgot how much pleasure one gets changing the front ones lol).
still sounded rough and cut out and tried again and would'nt fire up and again ses light comes on jumped yet again and code 33 came up map sensor.

like I said the symptoms was rough idle, smoke, and smell of fumes / petrol - So am I on the right track here to check all the vacuum pipes/connections and change out the map sensor ?

Right as an update and many swear words later - I have found that the map sensor vacuum line has disconnected itself from the fuel rail - is there a way of reconnecting this without removing the top plenum or does the plenum have to be removed and what is the likely hood of damaging any gaskets as I don't have any stockists near by ?

You may have to pull the upper intake if you cant see where the line went. Pull up a vacuum diagram for your motor and see where that line goes. If its a break in the plastic line, you can use a piece of vac tubing as a coupler to join the broken ends. Or get a new set of vac lines from fiero store and do em all. Good luck!

Thanks Shemdogg - I will look at this in the morning (I am in the uk) I made up stainless steel vacuum lines about 12 years ago the end has literally come off and needs putting back on thats all - apart from it being a pain to get at without taking the upper unit off

ok as an update - removed the top plenum to get to the pipe that had come off the fuel regulator (that got tie wrapped back on) put everything back started her up and threw a code 34 high pressure on the map after and bit of fidlling around adjusting the hoses disconnected the battery to reset the ecm and started back up this time no smoke no rough idle no code showung up just high revs at 2000 and went up a bit further before I shut it off.
So does anyone know what is causing high revs ???

many thanks for any help

As an further update - the high revs have been solved - it was the large pipe from the TB that had come out whilst I repaired the map sensor pipe at the fuel rail Just didnt see it but I am surprised how easy it fell out no grommet or o ring to seal it up - Or should there be one ?

Jon, there is (or there's supposed to be) an internal O-ring in the throttle-body. After all these years, it's probably not as snug around that short length of pipe as it used to be.

well hopefully this can be put to bed - still had issues this week and wasnt smooth sometimes starts and sometimes just dies - took the air plenum off and found the rubber connecting hoses had cracks in so replaced them disconnected the battery to reset the ecm and wow drives real smooth took her her for a 30 mile drive nothing mad just steady taking her up to 70 mph so the ecm will learn.
Hopefully first thing in the morning she'll start.

many thanks for all your help

Jon, just for clarification for anyone in the future with a similar problem... What "rubber connecting hoses" are you referring to? The vacuum lines are hard plastic. Are you referring to the rubber fittings on the end of them?
