Interior Switch (Page 1/1)

I'm taking apart the interior in my 88 coupe 4 cylinder auto and noticed a small push button switch on the trim under the door (garnish?). When I pulled the trim the switch kind of fell apart and now I wonder what it does. It's right in front of the parking brake lever, but it's not the brake switch - that's on the lever itself. I can't figure out how the push button would ever be actuated or what it does. It doesn't show up in the service manual.

Anyone know what this is? Is it normally open or closed? Can I just cut off the wires and forget about it?

A photo would be helpful. It sounds aftermarket.

Is the switch coming out of the front door pocket sheet metal and held with a nut?

See pictures below. It's just mounted in the plastic trim with two very small wires leading away somewhere. It well may be aftermarket. When I bought this it had a Python security system that wasn't functional. I don't know anything about those systems but the wiring for it is a mess. I've been slowly removing parts of the system that I know don't do anything. I've removed the circuit board, the fuses and the relays but there is still a rats nest of wiring under the dash.

Any ideas on what a switch like this might do for a security system?

Is a cheap generic push either open or closed not anyone pushing.

Follow the wires.
Does wires go into factory wrap wire harness? If so what colors may help to ID the circuit.

Think Only factory wire there is brake warning light that turn On when parking bake is "On."
1 ppl wire that goes to ground when lever is pulled.

I agree with Ogre, it's definitely not original - most likely part of the security system.
