Fiero Fuel Sensor Rewire ? (Page 1/1) |

Has anyone tried rewiring the resistance block with nichrome wire?
Several of the strands are broken and the gas gauge registers full right (no continuity).
I know the Fiero Store sells a new fuel sensor assembly, but I bought the car to work on, not just replace parts (OK, I'm cheap also).
I have the specs for the resistance required and can determine the amount of wire required; I just want to know if anyone else has tried this.
Thanks

NAPA offers new Fuel Level Sensor contacts, P/N GM64. Will check with them 27 Dec to see if it will work.

Apparently, I'm not the only one who refuels based on odometer readings, lol. My gauge moves a little but stays at the full end. If those Napa parts work, it will be a good solution to a common issue with a lot of GM cars.

Gm uses 2 or more sender versions over just Fiero years.
Above won't fit some senders. Like mine w/ 2 piece shell w/ bend ears at 3 points keeping them close.
And won't help any w/ broken nichrome. I've never seen anyone replacing this part. Only a tread in archives now saying how to clean and other minor repairs.------------------ Dr. Ian Malcolm: Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should. GM64 won't work. Talked to local NAPA store and they (& I) decided it wasn't what I needed.
Next stop - Get 84-88 GM fuel sensor from local junk yard. Swap and see what happens. If no go, rewire junk sensor block with nichrome wire.
Will post results, but I'm not fast. I'm not slow either, more like half-fast.
