3800sc issues (Page 1/1)

I understand this isn't a 3800 forum but all the 3800 forums I could find are dead. Today when I took my car out for its second test drive it ran fine all the way down to O'Reillys. After I put some berryman's in the tank and found a back alley to rip it around for a little bit. Once I decided to head back everything kind of went downhill. My engine started backfiring really badly after making it around a roundabout. Any time I tried to accelerate the car would just backfire repeatedly and refuse to gain any speed. I then pulled over and then my car refused to start. The starter would only click a lot and I and my friends couldn't get it started after charging it and trying to push start it.

Does anyone have any ideas on the 2 issues? I love the car even though I've made no real trips in it yet and I would love to see it run right again.

Thanks guys,
Phil

What is berrymans and why did you think you needed to add it?

Sounds like you added to much Berryman. Remember the Fiero has an extremely small fuel tank.

I'm not sure about the fuel additive. My 3800sc had similar issues many years ago when the alternator wasn't charging much. I'd start out a drive just fine (because it was on a battery tender) but after ~10 minutes it would start lurching as the coils (and maybe fuel pump) didn't have enough voltage. Something to consider.

Spray a lil starter fluid in the throttle body. If its starts, you have a fuel issue. If it doesnt, you have an ignition issue. Check for codes, maybe knocked some debris loose in the fuel tank and jammed up the pump strainer or fuel filter when you were having fun. If it doesnt start with starter fluid, look for loose wires, motor will start with good crank sensor signal.
