What am I doing wrong with the outside strip. The screws don't line up vertically. If I make them line up the lip slips inside the door.

Mentioning the year of your Fiero is always a good idea... as all Fieros are not the same.

Sorry, 87gt. Strips are from the fiero store, they look great same is stock.

Okay, it's the 84's that are different.

I have a door in the back of my van on which I just replaced the dew wipe.

That's weird that the lip would go under the skin. I'll have to look at my other Fiero at home because now my brain is playing tricks on what's right.

I just looked at two 88's and one 87. The lip does not hook on top of the door skin. On the two 88's the top of the dew wipe was 3/16" - 1/4" above door skin. I did replace the dew wipes on one of these doors. I'm working on a friends 87 right now. On those doors the top of the dew wipe is a bit below the door skin. However I do not know if they are original.

On both of my ‘86 GT’s the lip on the factory dew wipes go under the door skin. It’s the same on the ‘86 SE I owned. Putting it on under the skin will line up the holes and allow you to “tweak” the dew wipe for best fit.

So, it's correct to be under the skin, but 'tis weird. You would think you'd want that lip outside to channel the water over the skin - not through !
