Ughs, valve cover time (Page 1/1)

Time to replace the V6 valve cover gaskets. Used the blue Fel-pro silicone style last time (and will this time too) I recall there being little round gaskets for each bolt hole, is that correct? The kits don’t show them.

Last time I replaced them was 11/2008 when we had the motor out to clean and reseal everything. Is it possible to do the job w/o removing the upper and mid plenums?

It's true, 2.8 valve covers CAN be removed without removing the middle intake plenum!

Interesting, do I need the flexibility of an 18 y/o contortionist to be able to access those inner bolts?

I think I was about 60 y/o when I posted that thread. I mentioned in there somewhere what I used on those inner bolts. [EDIT] Maybe it was a different thread where I mentioned what I used... but if memory serves me correctly, I was able to turn a 1/4" drive socket on the bolt head using a large Phillips screwdriver held at quite an angle.

Thanks Patrick, i'm going to search to read that whole thread. Just in case, I ordered the upper and mid plenum gaskets, injector o-rings and throttle body gasket.

At least one member here had posted that they were able to remove the valve covers without even removing the upper (top) intake plenum. I suppose it must be possible then, but man-oh-man, I think that would be pretty difficult.

I've decided to pull the upper and mid plenums, then bring the injectors to a shop for pressure testing/cleaning. It's been roughly 14 years since that's been done. Although I only drive 3,000 mi. year, i'll be right there so, why not take an extra step. Also debating replacing the plastic vac. lines with steel.

I suspect you're aware that the middle intake plenum doesn't need to be removed to service the injectors?

yup, except i figured i'd plop a new gasket down there too since im so close, and it would also make it easier to position those valve covers.
