L32 Knock Retard (Page 1/1)
TurboGN APR 06, 08:44 AM
I have a 1988 Fiero GT with an L32 & an Intense Racing PCM. At 105 Kpa manifold pressure I'm getting 4-5 degrees of KR (lean) and in a few places scattered throughout it is running very rich. I have been trying to get help at HPTuners forum but I'm mostly getting told that the 3800's are very basic and the computers don't have many options for tuning. It appears that HP Tuners is mostly geared towards LS's and such. Is there any way to adjust these problems areas?

Have you tested the sensor to make sure its not falsely reading knock?

If so, have you tried higher octane fuel?

Is this a stock engine?

I just put in brand new knock sensors because I wasn't getting any data.

I use 93 octane and have been putting octane boost in that raises it to about 97.

Yes, it's a stock L32.

I can try to help, although I'm pretty new to HP Tuners. Do you have a wideband O2 sensor? Can you post a log from your VCM Scanner (as a CSV file)? The foundational step is to get your idle and cruise close to optimized (14.7 AFR, long term fuel trims near zero). That is done with a combination of the injector flow rate table and (more commonly) edits to your MAF table. I still use an old Excel macro from "damojo" to improve my MAF table. Then you can optimize for wide-open throttle. With your boosted application, is your fuel pressure regulator boost referenced (does it have a vacuum port)?

I got some help from another forum and I've been working on the idle and cruise portion. I do have a wideband and it looks like I have gotten things a lot closer. I can always use more help.....lol. I'll try to post a log within the next couple days. Yes, my FPR is boost referenced so I'm all set there.
Thanks.

I just did a short log but I don't see where I can post it.

I like to graph my logs in google drive's excel program, I just upload my CSV into there, label my columns, graph it, and it's very easy to select the data you want to graph. You might need to change the RPM scale so that all the other values are not miniscule in comparison, see below I create a new column for RPM which is just RPM/100. Then you can post a screenshot of the graphed data here. Otherwise you will need to host the file somewhere and provide a link to it, and it is up to whoever is looking at it to graph it which might give you less takers.

Here's an example from my WRX:
