Front Brake Caliper Swap but using OEM Rotors? (Page 1/1)

I was looking at Fiero videos, and found this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8gurTjBzVw

Right away, it looks interesting! The bolts used to mount the caliper are clearly not OEM. But, the channel owner states his '84 has the same caliper.

Was there some kind of other factory option for the Fiero? I would have said Grand Am calipers, but these rotors haven't been milled.

The stock bolts are Torx. I'm thinking that the bolts were just replaced at some time. I've had one 84, and the calipers looked just like this one.

Those are stock 84-87 Fiero calipers.
He is just removing them via the caliper bracket vs. removing them via the caliper slider bolts.

Yup, he's removing the "wrong" bolts.
Can see this easy at time stamp 1:51 where you see upper slider rubber cap.

You never remove the bracket bolts. When you have to do this for whatever reason, you don't want anti-seize and tighten w/ 1/2" torque wrench so bracket cannot move.

Worse, he's installed wheel bearings with small amount Pre-load and that will destroy them likely on the highway at night or in heavy traffic.
If bearing fails at speed then can have steering problems, brake failure, fire and other major problems can cause a wreck. If he get sued after a wreck, this video showing idiot repair(s) can Bite hard...

To drive the cap on, use scrap pipe to make a drive that doesn't mash it.

I'm clearly smoking the crack - for some reason I was thinking the caliper bolted right up to the wheel hub. I'll have to look at my SE later to get the visual.

edit - yeah, I have no idea what I was thinking. Putting down the pipe now.

On the 84-87 rear, the caliper does bolt directly to the knuckle. The front used a caliper bracket from the knuckle to the caliper.

that's probably what I was thinking about. Sigh. Let's just chalk it up to a case of senioritis.
