3800 Swap Wiring Question (Page 1/1)

Working on pulling an 3800 engine for my fiero. How much of the harness from the 3800 do I need from the donor car? Do I need the electric seat wires, steering wheel, power windows, ect? Also the 2003 Buick regal I’m pulling from seems to have more than one computer and I’m not sure if I need all three.

The complete engine harness.

Be sure to make sure that anything connected to the engine from another harness is included, in case your OEM harness setup has a few connectors that aren't part of the main engine harness.

You need the PCM connectors as well.

The OEM PCM can be programmed to run the drivetrain without the other to modules.

To expand on what Joe said...

You'll need the complete PCM engine harness - this plugs into the engine, PCM and under-hood fuse and relay center (which you will not need); as well as 2 in-line connectors that tie the engine harness into the wiring that runs inside of the vehicle. You don't need any of the wiring that runs inside of the vehicle. One thing you will need from inside of the vehicle is the OBD2 scan tool port - so make sure you get that with at least a couple inches of wiring attached to it so you have something to work with. You may want to grab the electronic cruise control module, cable (that attaches it to the throttle body) and its harness connector pigtail if you want to use it in your Fiero.

The PCM (located in the engine compartment inside the factory air cleaner) is the only computer module you'll need.

You're going to merge the 3800 harness with parts of the stock Fiero ECM harness (particularly - those portions that plug into the Fiero C203 and C500 connectors). You will discard the stock Fiero ECM as it will not be needed in this swap.

I have wiring instructions that explain how to wire up the factory 3800 PCM and harness to the Fiero if you want to DIY: http://www.gmtuners.com/files/index.htm
