V6 A/C Relay Wiring (Page 1/1)

Me and the wife just finished doing a complete retrofit to 134a on her 87'GT. A flush followed by all the normal new components accumulator, limit switches and new compressor. Everything seems to function great after vacuum and charge. But when buttoning everything up we noticed the previous owner at some point cut and spliced some wires at the A/C relay. Hoping someone can look at the photos of the wire colors and can tell me what they were trying to accomplish. I think I would like to undo this and make it like it was originally. Seems weird someone would do this just to bypass a bad relay. As I said it functions properly in it's current state.

I can't see all the wire colors but this is what the service manual shows:

light blue and dark blue are the coil switched on and off by the ECM
dark green and black are the contacts in series with the compressor clutch

The contacts for the A/C power relay in the front compartment are also in series with the A/C compressor relay and clutch. If the A/C compressor relay is bypassed by connecting the dark green and black wires the A/C will still work. But you lose the functionality of the ECM being able to shut off the A/C compressor at wide open throttle. This obviously robs some WOT power. I don't know whether or not it would shorten the life of the compressor. Relays aren't that expensive. I would restore the wiring to OEM.
