Help with hoses (Page 1/1) |

Hello! This may be my first post but I've been lurking for awhile and gaining useful information from you all. My parents are the original owners of an 85 GT. My dad pulled the engine about 20 years ago for a rebuild. Much to my mom's chagrin, he never put it back together and he passed away 2 years ago. He did a good job labeling things but over the years parts were moved and labels went missing so it's been a chore to piece it back together. I live 1400 miles away so it's slow going. I'm getting ready for another trip soon and am hoping to get some help on a couple of things I'm stuck on. First, what, if anything, is connected to the front valve cover? I can't figure out if I'm missing a plug for the hole in the cover or if I need a grommet for something to connect to. My second question is related to the coolant hoses. There are 4 hose connections on the filler neck. I only have 3 figured out. It's been several months and I don't have any good pictures but I believe it's the 2nd hose nipple from the top (below the main radiator hose) that I can't identify. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry about your dad.
I wanted to address the "front" valve cover, as many people refer to the valve cover located closet to the trunk as the "front" one... but of course it's really the back one.
The actual front valve cover has a metal tube that connects to the throttle body's rubber snorkel (which was updated for a recall decades ago). The back valve cover is where the PCV plugs into, and from there the attached hose connects underneath of the top intake plenum. I believe the rubber grommet in both valve covers is the same.
Don't be afraid to post images of what you're not sure about, using the Upload Media link in the lower left of the text box.[This message has been edited by Patrick (edited 06-05-2023).]

Thank you for the info, Patrick! It is the front valve cover I'm referring to and now I'll know what to be looking for.
I don't have any pictures showing the coolant hose nipple in question so I'll take one when I get back out there. I do have several pictures of miscellaneous parts I'm trying to identify that I plan on eventually posting to ask for help.
Here's where everything stands at the moment. Believe it or not, I've made a lot of progress!

I’ve got tons of pics when I pulled mine out, also a 85 GT, as well as putting it back together. Let me know what you need. I can send thru email or post them here…… here’s an example.

Are you referring to one of the small nipples, or the larger one on the furthest left?

I'm pretty sure it's the one on the far left.
Patrick, I will most definitely take you up on your offer.
Speaking of pictures, my dad took quite a few when he pulled the engine but he used a Polaroid camera! These fancy digital cameras didn't exist yet. I can't tell you how many times I absent-mindedly tried to zoom in on some of those pictures. 🤣

Off the top of my head, I don't remember the exact routing, but I believe that's for the heater core.

Oops! Regardless, many thanks to each of you for your help in making progress toward getting this car back on the road while my mom can still enjoy it.
