Flushmount headlight kit not available. . . options? (Page 1/1)
fredtoast JUN 07, 04:44 PM
Just bought an '87 GT. Only thing I was really anxious to change were the pop-up headlights. I have been reading about Fieros for a while and had already decided to get the custom Bi-Xexon headlight kits discussed in the threads. But now that I actually bought a Fiero I see that the kits are not in stock. And I assume it may be a LONG TIME before any more are made (if ever) for a car that has not been produced in over 25 years.

So what are my other options? I remember seeing some "buckets" (Munson) in some threads, but i never saw how they would work as a complete kit with lights and covers and I don't see anywhere to buy them.

I am not a fabricator of any type but I can do some very simple stuff with fiberglass. I remember reading about how flushmount headlights from a stock 3000gt will fit to replace MR2 pop-ups. Any "near fits" for fiero's from other cars?

I realize this question gets old around here, but it is new to me. And I did look up old threads before asking.

Thanks for any help guys. Message boards like this make life a thousand times easier for car guys.

First and most importantly, send me your old headlight stuff

Id ask the maker of the kit if more are on the way. Its a fairly new product so I wouldnt be surprised

Here are a couple of headlight threads with some other options.

I have the Tony Kania 4x6 low profile lights on my car with Hella 4x6 halogen headlights and am very happy with them. The light pattern is great and I can see really good if I drive at night.

Post some pics of your Fiero, just use the "Upload Media" button in the lower left corner.

Thanks for all the quick replies. I had somehow missed the most recent thread posting the Munson kits for sale. They look great, but based on the reviews I am not spending $550 on them.

Don't really care for the "low rise" look, but if no other kits available in near future I may go in that direction.

Funny thing is that when I was buying the car one of the problems was that a headlight would not come up. I didn't care because I thought I would be replacing them. No way I am going to pay for a new motor before I decide what to do regarding possible replacements.

⚠️ Warning: Most HL "Upgrades" are Illegal and fail Inspection or can get Stop by Cops any where you drive.

Why?
1 Example Most states having rules/laws says any aftermarket covers on HL (and Taillights) are Illegal and reason to stop you. In states w/ inspection often instant Fail for same.

This is Part of Why many w/ "Munson Kits" remove the covers ignoring other problems w/ that.

87-88 have Gen2 HL motors
See https://web.archive.org/web...cast.net/~fierocave/ in electrical section.

And can get New Motors for them and less money then crap "upgrades." Cardone and AZ have lifetime warranty while Ebay etc is less $ and w/o warranty.

Read HL page too if bulbs are "dim" or other problems.

Is it because you don't like the look of them, or is it because you're concerned about their reliability? If it's the latter, as The Ogre has pointed out, the 2nd generation headlights that came on the '87-'88 Fieros are not nearly as troublesome as the 1st generation system.

I suggest you find a picture of the exact set of flush mount headlights you are looking for and post a thread in the mall letting people know that you are interested in buying that style. A lot of people by parts and then let them sit on the shelf for years. You might be able to convince one of them to part with their new, never installed set.

This is a picture of the Embrace racing versions that were offered a few years ago here:

Yes. Those are the ones I want. Doubt that they are in high demand so I doubt many new ones will be made soon. Keeping my fingers crossed, but will take your advice and post in mall. You never know what car guys have laying around, and I am open to other options.

Thanks.

Did not know they were not in stock until I went to buy them.
