Hello! I recently acquired this 84 Fiero as a fixer upper and she recently snapped her last belt (it looked old). The journey of putting a new belt on has been, well quite the journey so far.
Got a new belt from napa and put it on but the pulleys just don't line up (specifically: alternator pulley sort of lines up with the inner groove of the crank, but the water pump perfectly aligns with the outer groove. When it runs with the belt it gets hot really quickly ans just makes bad noises (tried on both crank grooves). I have an acdelco 15500 belt that I haven't tried yet, but I don't want to tear that one to shreds if the pulleys aren't aligned.
There's no play in any of the pulleys, everything spins freely, engine otherwise runs fine (except for the high idle I've been working on fixing), the belt gets tensioned to 1/2 inch movement up and down as it should to no avail. I'm lost as to what to do; I can't figure it out, my dad and uncle who are helping also don't know what to do. I tried asking on r/fiero on reddit too and nobody had any clue.
Bought a 3 groove pulley off rock auto to hopefully see if that would help solve my problem; middle pulley would work but the inner just wouldn't clear the engine.
When I say any help is appreciated, I truly do mean it. Myself and everyone else I've talked to has no clue.

That's not the correct waterpump or pulley. The waterpump has a press on pulley, not bolt on. The waterpump and alternator run on the inner crankshaft pulley groove, what you are explaing also points to the incorrect waterpump pulley.

Hey jelly2m8
That was a thought I had but since I've been unable to find any photos or documentation on any original water pumps or pulleys, I've been assuming it was the original pump.
Would you happen to have a photo of an original pulley you might be able to share?

Sorry man, I don't have any pics of that, I checked my parts today and don't see a 4 cyl waterpump or pulley anymore.
2nd pic in this tread by Cowspatoot is the best I can find
