I have had the Arraut front tubular control arm kit with QA 1 coilovers on my car, 1988 MERA, for a few years and have always had random noises from the front suspension. The springs would shift in the upper spring seat adapters that are in the kit and also would rub on the shock bodies. I tried several things but still had some random noises. After reading about a member using the Mustang II springs for a coilover mod with stock A arms I found that they might work on my setup with the stock upper spring mount, they are a tapered spring with a 2 1/2" ID on one end and 3 1/2" ID on the other. I got a pair of 8 inch 375 pound Mustang II springs and they work great. The spring stays put in the upper spring seat and no rubbing on the shock body.

Another problem I found was my QA 1 shocks came with the Camaro top stud kit which has a cap that was contacting the Fiero frame which caused some of the noise. It put the shock shaft in a bind against the side of the upper mount hole in the shock tower. I cut the cap down to fix that problem and now I can back out of my driveway without any pops or creaks and the front suspension is quiet on rough surfaces.
