Fender flares (Page 1/1)

I like flared fenders, but not a fan of the "screw on" look. Anyone ever installed the "screw ons" and then cover them with fiberglass to make them look like part of the body?

I've seen people mold them in and the car looks like garbage. The flares curves out and downward and make the car look completely out of proportion. Now Rob on here has made and worked fender flares into a car but his are more straight outward so they fit the car perfectly.

It would be tricky to get the basic screw on flares to flow evenly with the body lines. But now that I know other people have at least tried it I think I will dig into it more.

If you buy flares that are maybe 1 to1.5" wider, they will look good. If you buy those 3 to 4" wide flares, they will not look good.
You can get something like these and because they're fiberglass, you can shorten them if you like.

Exactly. I was thinking 1.5 to 2.0.

Sorry to sound like such a noob, but you attach those with screws from the inside, correct?

Why doesn't everyone use those instead of the ones with the visible screws? They look a lot better, and seems like would be just as easy to install? What am I missing?

Those can be mounted with screws from the inside or molded into the fender. The only issue is the arch. I don't know if it matches the arch of the stock fenders.

I have been "casually" looking at fender flares for quite a while, but just recently bought a car to actually buy them for. To be honest all I had ever seen had at least small screw holes on the outside. I assumed those were kind of designed to be hidden with body work. The ones you just showed me don't have any exterior holes at all. Is there a specific term I should use when searching for that type? I am sure there must be other shapes and sizes available.

Thanks so much for the info.

I am loving this place.

I just look at Ebay and search for universal fender flares. Here is one Ebay seller that hand makes them out of metal:

This person used flares from a 1989 Pontiac Sunbird turbo:
