oil fill cap issue (Page 1/1)

Oil cap will not close properly. I assume the problem is that I just don't have the right cap. Can anyone tell from this? It has tabs instead of threads

But just to make sure the cap is the problem, there is not supposed to be any sort of seal on the valve cover is there? Nothing missing here (except paint)?

BTW that is not shiny metal flake in my engine. I think it is just the reflection of the flash.

Yes, that appears to be the factory cap. The cap just has tabs that hook on to the opening of the valve cover and pull it tight. What does the bottom of the oil cap look like?

Same cap I have. Here’s a pic on the other side.. the rubber gasket on mine looks fine but due to age and heat I believe they shrink and no longer hold the cap tight. I removed the rubber gasket, cut a gasket out of flat gasket material, put it on and then reinstalled the rubber one….just enough of a “shim” to make it tight again. The gasket material is sort of a cross between paper and rubber. Got it at NAPA.

I bet I could not even buy a sheet of material for $5. And this one should be precut to perfect fit.

Incredible.

I think shipping is only a few bucks and yes, "Perfect Fit"

Does the oil fill cap on your V-6 weep oil? Most do. You can easily fix this with my V-6 oil cap saver gasket.

A common problem with the V-6 oil cap is that as they get older they leak a small but irritating amount of oil onto the valve cover. If your factory oil cap weeps a slight amount of oil it can be saved.

To install: You will remove the factory rubber gasket and install this black rubber gasket and then replace the original gasket. The addition of this thin rubber gasket adds just enough space to make the factory rubber gasket seal tight again.

And yes again, it works nicely! Enjoy
