MS3X with LQ1 questions (Page 1/1)

Does anyone here have experience with megasquirt on LQ1s? I have a couple questions. 1997 lq1 btw

Did you use the stock ignition control module?
If so, do you have the pinout for it?
if not, what did you do to power the ignition coils?
also, is the 24x crank sensor the same as the LS1 24x sensor, at least to the ecu?

I want to run full sequential so I would be using the cam sensor aswell.

I have experience with the 7x trigger (routed directly to MS3 via a 4-pin HEI module) and sequential injection on a sort of stock Fiero V6. There is no DIS module on my car.

ericjon262 on here has experience with a 24x wheel on a 3.5 LX9. I'm not sure if he's running sequential injection; you would have to ask him.

I don't think it matters that you're talking about an LQ1 in particular; any Chevrolet 60°V6 family engine with the same trigger type is the same from the perspective of the ECU.

I'm not sure how much benefit there is with sequential injection. I should try unplugging my cam sensor one day; the MS3 then reverts to batch injection. I should check what difference it makes in driveability...

the LQ1 24x sensor is different than the LS1 and LX9 wheels, it's just 24 evenly spaced teeth. I'm running an MS3 Pro on my LX9, which is similar to an MS3x, but with more I/O and a fancier case.

you can run full sequential with the 24x trigger used by the LQ1, but you'll have to do it in a fairly unconventional way. as described in this post/thread. please excuse the mess:

I can't confirm it beyond a shadow of a doubt, but I suspect sequential makes a bigger difference with a bigger cam, and bigger injectors, in your case, a bigger cam will be a bit difficult.

The stock LQ1 ignition can actually work without an ECM, but it's locked at something like 10* of timing, but the MS3 can run off of the stock 7x crank position sensor and ignition system, and provide a tuned advance curve. in the megasquirt manual, look under "GM DIS" for wiring . I'm running 6 LSx truck coils on my car, but my build is a bit outside of normal for a 60v6, I seem to keep my thread on real fiero tech more up to date than my thread on here, but if you would like to take a look, here's a link.

sounds like you have a similar setup to mine. I built a 7 notch crank wheel with an LS crank trigger .I took apart my distributor and built a 12 tooth wheel with 1 tooth removed and used another LS trigger for cam sensor. I used an emtron SL6 ecu duel knock sensors , duel lambda O2 sensors with an emtron ELC2 controller. Ford racing 52 lb injectors.Changed it over to drive by wire with a Nissan 370ZX pedal and a Bosch throttle body from a VW Tiguan. sleek

Sleek,

My setup uses stock LX9 sensors and wheels, I would be interested to see what your setup looks like, got a build thread?
