Exhaust notch (Page 1/1) |

Is there a safe technique to mold the exhaust notch of the rear bumper to flatten it out? Mine is a single notch, so I only need to do that one side.
The reason is that I no longer have an exhaust, so nothing is going to be sticking out there. For aesthetic purposes, would rather make it look like it doesn't have an exhaust notch.

Depending year/model gt se etc often have 2 "plastics" to "fix" for that...
rear facia work w/ "glues" etc for glass reinforce plastic sold for body shops. bottom "trim" often is Polypropylene hates most glues but can weld it. ------------------ Dr. Ian Malcolm: Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should. You might have an insert for the notch 3D printed with something like ELECTRIC on it!

Maybe swap rear fascias? Didn't the 84 and 85 base models and SE's not have notchouts for the exhausts?

That's right, you're putting a Leaf motor in there.
Well, I know that lately when bumpers / fenders get damaged (the enduraflex style ones), they actually repair them now. They can melt them in such a way as to re-mold them. I'm not sure how this was done, but 14 years ago when my daughter was born, a van turned the corner too tight and hit the bumper on my Crown Victoria. The insurance company had it sent in at the Ford dealership, and they were able to "plastic weld" the fender... so, you could probably cut out the notch, remove a little material, and re-glue it.
I honestly don't even remember what it looks like. I'm trying to imagine, are you using the 2m body style? I didn't even think they had a notch... but you should be able to use that process... however that's done. Modern body shops should be able to do it, otherwise if you want to do it yourself, whatever that process is called, someone probably has a video for it on YouTube.
Would be interested if you find one...

Yeah. I have the 85SE rear facia, so the notch isn't prominent and thought I might be able to mold it flat with a heat gun, but don't know if that is a bad idea or not. Thinking the community may have better ideas. 🙂

I've got a Formula that I converted to single exhaust (because I'm that guy). I just added an aluminum plate that is bolted in the "gap" on the right side. Painted it black to match the lower valence. Of course, if you've got the bumper pad fascia, YMMV.
