I replaced them asap and I'm not sure what would have happened if these failed while driving 80 mph on the highway but I'm guessing it wouldn't be good...

So I was wondering, which parts can cause a potential fatal structural failure? Which parts should one check on a regular base?

If those rot, most anything in the suspension can be bad.
