How to identify belt molding clips by year (Page 1/1)

Hello fellow Fiero people! I am in a desperate need of advice, I got grooved moldings on fb Marketplace from different people, now I need to buy clip kits for them, I saw that on Fiero Store they sell two different kits for long door molding, for 84-85 year cars and for 86-87 year cars, I will add the links to both kits bellow, My question is, how to identify the moldings whether they are from 84-85 year cars or from 86-87? what I noticed, is that although both of the door moldings look the same from the outside, on the back one of them is fully plastic, but the another one has metal strip molded in, maybe that's the year difference? and if yes, which years are which?

Here are thi links to both kits:

Thank you guys in advance

I'll try to help you out.... odd, never noticed that on the Fiero Store site. What year is your car? I don't think you will go wrong with either, looking now i think it's just a difference in clip design, they do the same function. I can tell you now that I put 88 round moldings on my car with what fits 84-85. that's because I still have a stock pile of GM clips I bought when Christ was still a cowboy...

If you have the grooved molding, order the 84-85 kit, it will work fine.

Thanks for the reply jelly2m8, My car is 88, i got it form the auction in US without front fascia, i always liked fastback roofline, but never liked aero bumpers and ground effects, now I am converting the car to bumperpad bumpers and side skirts, that's why I had to get grooved moldings, to match them with bumper moldings, what I can confirm is that rounded molding clips from my car are not working with grooved moldings, they are loose on them, so now I am kinda afraid to order wrong clips, especially considering that I live in Georgia, not US state, but a country in Eastern Europe, and it takes time for stuff to get shipped here, so it would really suck to get wrong clips and than having to order them again. there should be difference since they are selling them as two separate kit, also i noteiced that there is one extra pin in one of them, I hope at leas the door skins are the same . . . still not sure which kit to order

Before you order new clips, if yours are re-usable, yes the clips that have the 90 degree part on it might be a little loose but the moldings are located by the flat clips with the rivet in them, once installed on the car those other clips work by tension and should hold the molding in place.

Try one with your current clips and see how it is after installed onto the car.
