Removing Rear Deck Luggage Trim? (Page 1/1)
rehoward JUL 14, 11:21 PM
I just bought a 1986 (I actually think it is a 1985) Fiero and would like to remove the luggage trim from the rear deck. How is this trim fastened?
Can I just use heat or something to take them off or are they bolted on? Will I have to deal with exposed holes in the deck when the trim is removed?
Will removing the trim mess up the paint?
Thanks.

Bolted on and "special" nut needs matching cone "wrench" to remove w/o damage to the lid. Most nuts are hidden in lid's framing on bottom.

removing will require holes to be filled and thus F'ed the paint. If done wrong, hole fill will Fail, likely soon, letting "water" in the truck.

I use the rack often. Various ways to tie down besides anchor holes to carry big but relatively light things.
or smallish heavier things like big pet food bags etc that use all surface to spread the load.

If tied right, have to hit a wall before the load will move in any direction.

Title and other State Docs should show the year w/ Matching VIN on the car in several places not just the easy one thru windshield.

The rack is bolted on, removing it leaves a bunch of holes that take a lot of work to fill. You pry out the rubber strips, and the fasteners are hidden underneath.

I've had several people ask me over the years if I still had the parts, so apparently some people want them.

You can tell what year a Fiero is by the VIN, the 10th character should be F if it's an 85, or G if it's an 86. The 5th character will tell you what trim level.

If you want a decklid with no luggage rack, it's best to find a decklid that never had one. A notchie decklid from any year will fit... although one from an '84 will only fit over a duke (and it has a built in grill).
