Hey peeps. Been noticing recently that my shifter moves forward about a half inch or so when I let off the gas in 3-4 gear. Probably does it in the lower gears too, but haven't really noticed it. Just seems to be worse than years ago. I know I could use a rebuild on the shifter too, but it's definitely not just the shifter being a little worn.
I put new engine and trans mounts on about 3or 4 years ago, but I couldn't source a replacement dog bone for a year (canada, prices were nuts). Finally installed some poly bushings in the OEM mount. I did have to pull the engine back to get the dog bone connected with the new bushings, so at the time the mounts were good. But it seems like they may have died already? I made sure to torque everything to spec at the time, all the info is online for this car so there's no reason NOT to torque things.
I might just get new mounts anyway as they aren't too expensive, but would worn cradle mounts cause this too? I have new poly cradle bushings, just haven't installed them yet so it's probably still on the OEM rubber.
Thanks all!

Shifter likely suffers as trans moves to accell or "engine brake."
New trans/engine mounts can break when dog bones are bad. Iffy cradle bushings won't help either.
⚠️ Polly Bushings Cores don't Teeth to lock them to whatever bracket etc. Worse w/ Dog Bones that often have Slotted holes for one bracket. So when they get even a tiny bit loose, the cores will move and wear that spot and get looser and bolts then move too making the problem worse.
IOW Any polly bushing loose quickly "eat" the core, bracket, or both.------------------ Dr. Ian Malcolm: Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should. (Jurassic Park)

Rev it by hand with the throttle in the engine bay. See how much it all moves. On my Sonic the shifter moved because of a bad bearing on 1 of the shafts inside the transmission. It only affected the couple of gears that were on that shaft, ended up getting the transmission replaced. Trans was underfilled by 0.5qt or more at the factory, and I didn't know changing manual trans fluid was a maintenance item. It had made it to 150k. "New" (77k miles) trans seems to have no issues and I keep it filled with royal purple gear oil.[This message has been edited by sdgdf (edited 07-21-2023).]
