How many Australian members are on the forum? I Live in melbourne Australia and considering an engine swap, most likely the Buick but maybe look at a V8 option. Im interested to know if there are any members or mechanics familiar with these cars and the swap here or in Aus in general, if so, could you pls contact me so we can discuss options. Thanks

I'm wondering if you fit in an old Holden V8.

There are several Aussies on the list that I know of. One is in Melbourne with an ‘87 GT with a 3.4L swap.
The Holden 3800 V6 is the same engine as the 3800 in the US. Same kind of swap. There used to be a company in Brisbane that converted Fieros from LHD to RHD. They also did engine swaps. I don’t think they are in business any longer but you may be able to find a name.
I have a contact in Bathurst that may do a swap for you. He owns and runs the best mech shop in the area and does work on my cars that I won’t attempt.

Thankyou for the various replies, they are all helpful. The Rover 3.5ltr V8 engine is not that common even here in Aus and I did search the mentioned article and have begun to read it. The Holden V8 option is one that I am considering but they are not really that powerful speaking in general terms and I would be looking at the 253 or 308 cube motors. I am going to perservere with driving the car for a bit to determine if I really need to do something or not. Another question while it is in my mind, for the Aussie members,is there a locally sources larger brake booster that is compatible as a replacement for the original as I find the braking very poor. Thankyou again to all who replied and I will consider all the information carefully.

Never found a replacement booster in Australia that would work. You can order a booster for an S10 pickup from Summit Racing or Rock Auto. Shipping is reasonable and quick to Australia. The cost is about $150.00 AUD. Adjustable banjo would be about $25 AUD. Check valve would be about $35 AUD. New Wagner TQ brake pads for all 4 corners would be about $90 AUD. So for around $300 AUD, you would have a very good brake system (assuming your callipers and hoses are okay),
This is what I have on my ‘86 GT and it stops very well.
