while im not going to swap in a 3800 right now i think if i find any manual fiero axles i should grab them.i was watching a video on how to replace the axles and noticed the axles stick into the wheel hubs.[you are thinking duh].my question is should i grab the wheel hubs too?i didn't see this mentioned on any 3800 swap articles.

All Fieros use the same rear hubs.

i thought the manual axles had more splines?or is that only on the axle side?

You don't need the hubs, they're all the same. If you find actual OEM factory axles definitely get them. Aftermarket 'parts stores' axles are not as strong and sometimes use smaller internal parts.

After doing several 3800 auto swaps I have come to the conclusion that the axles will vary in length depending on the mounts that you use. One common error is to state that the GTP drivers side axle can be made to fit on the passenger side. I used WCF mounts/brackets and this was not the case. The final swap was quite a few years back but I recall using Chevy Citation axles that were a direct fit. ------------------ " THE BLACK PARALYZER" -87GT 3800SC Series III engine, custom ZZP /Frozen Boost Intercooler setup, 3.4" Pulley, Northstar TB, LS1 MAF, 3" Spintech/Hedman Exhaust, P-log Manifold, Autolite 104's, MSD wires, Custom CAI, 4T65eHD w. custom axles, Champion Radiator, S10 Brake Booster, HP Tuners VCM Suite. The axles you want are not engine dependent, they are transaxle dependent.

While the rear Fiero hubs are all the same (all years, all transmissions), the outer CVs on the axles are transmission dependent with the manual axles being stronger and the autos being weaker due to the physical size difference between the two. At the CV the power is transmitted from the axle, to the star, to the balls, to the outer CV housing. The larger diameter this happens over, the less load each component will see for a given power level and the higher torque they can transmit without excessive wear and premature failure.
Fiero manual CV - outer diameter of 93mm:
Fiero auto CV - outer diameter of 85mm:
When you start mixing and matching parts for custom axles, the dimensions of the CVs help determine which ones are interchangable by swapping the CV internals (star, ring and balls) to allow swapping outer CV housings to fit different outer wheel bearings (with different splines).
