With the cables disconnected at the transmission, can you move the levers on the transmission and get it into all five (four forward, one reverse) gears? (With the engine not running obviously.)

i can move everything into place but i cannot get find them when i mess with the linkage i even took it to a transmission shop and they said they couldn’t do anything about it the select cable lever on the transmission it self has a ton of play and i don’t know what the piece name is and can’t find it online anywhere and it’s super weird because when i had the old, bad select cable in there i had all my gears but i had to replace it because i then lost them

Check shifter for cracks or broken welds.
