Warning Crazy Idea inbound....
so as some may know more and more vehicles are coming out with electronic parking brakes, when vehicle is stopped and put in park they engage and when shifted out of park they disengage. now the thought is to retro this into a push button system (with a warning light of course) but the big question is this, does any one know if those electronic parking brakes work like other items, as in if terminal A is hot and terminal B is ground it engages and swap the polarity and it disengages?
if this is the case, why not retro the brakes to the fiero and rig it up either to work when in park or to be a push button setup?

The easiest system for the Fiero would be the ESK001 parking brake actuator made by E-Stopp.
https://www.estopp.com/info
It's about $600 for the actuator and the controller. The actuator replaces the hand lever and pulls directly on the hand brake cable. It would be relatively simple to wire it to act as you like.

I don't understand why anyone would want to pay $600 just to eliminate the Fiero's parking brake lever, and to add more complexity to the system? [This message has been edited by Patrick (edited 07-24-2023).]

This unit would probably be the safest bet because it appears to be a linear actuator in a housing which would be safer than any other solution.

It's a $600 hacksaw to get rid of the lever

Another option would to go with the full Wilwood kit. That includes parking brake calipers, controller and wiring harness for about $1,500. But you need at least 11" rotors and you need to make custom brackets for the additional calipers. (This is actually what I'm getting for my build). Expensive, but a really good system.

Good on paper only even for Factory Install parts.
Most to All Factory Electric Parking Brake are Just That and Won't Activate as "Emergency" brakes as all level/pedal P-brakes. OEM get away w/ them Because FMVSS(USDOT) CMVSS(Canada) and other Rules in some Counties Require Only Test as Parking Brakes on a Park Vehicle holding Up & Down a very small hill. (20% Grade/11.31° for 5 minutes in FMVSS 135.)
Worse, if they activate and then have problems either electrical, mechanical or both, they will Stay On and need a flatbed tow. For New Cars w/ them better hope still in Warranty because Cost to Repair in Labor and Parts are often many Hundreds of $. Because Many E-parking have motors in/on the calipers etc to run them.
Even many new models of "Lawn mowers" and other related equipment have this crap and when the "box" is "dead" not only the Brakes stay On, often can't even start them like in Taryl Fixes All https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2trTUEmWSmg------------------ Dr. Ian Malcolm: Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.
