Hello all, so I need to compress the rear caliper and I followed the steps in orge's cave by removing the ebrake accuating lever and then clamping down. I got the piston fully compresed no problem. I went to then put the accuating lever amd nut back on and it pushed the piston very far out and now I am afraid it is over extended. You can see in the pictures that it is no longer square with the bore, and that the accuating screw remains out even thought the piston is also out. Clamping it doesn't budge it at all. Is there any way to get it back in or do I need to go get a rebuild kit?

Yes, the piston is push out...
you didn't turn the screw to remount the level? And piston moved anyway?
Likely have to pull the piston to look @ it and inside cal to see what cause this.
Because Good pistons should not move w/o something making it move. seal and piston has some "binding" to stay put. that's "o-ring" hydro seal, not dust boot you see above.
"bad" pistons cause fail when outer piston "blows the back" when "rebuild" them or other problems because can't control the inner "hidden" strong spring. Back spring on the piston can force the "nut" to rotate if pistons are "bad" too. Either then can cause misalignment and hard to get screw in the piston w/o taking apart.
Good dust boot can be reused but need to be careful to remove. Try "driving" a pointed screw in between boot back and cal's bottom of that hole to push out the boot. Try smaller "drywall" and wood screws. Even if screw doesn't push far enough, makes a gap to pry w/ small flat screwdriver etc. If you bend the boot metal a bit, doesn't matter. all the boot does is keep out water/crap trying to get in.------------------ Dr. Ian Malcolm: Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.
