Bought the wrong type of clutch cylinder... (Page 1/2)

Stupidly ordered the earlier style clutch master from TFS rather than the later style that my 86 GT needs... am I screwed? Is it possible to make the earlier style work with my setup? The master cylinder hasn't arrived yet, just trying to work out what to do from here.

Call TFS and have them exchange it for the correct part.....

I know returning it is an option, but I'm curious what other differences there are between these. I know the fluid reservoir is in a different location and the line is routed differently. If I just bent the line to match the older style cylinder, would it work just the same?

Slave cylinders have the same part number, so the system should work.

Why go to the extra work, and take the chance on ruining the hydraulic line on your car?
The earlier line is longer, getting the line on your car to fit the earlier design master cylinder could be 'interesting'.

Get the right part.

I see the later style clutch master at TFS is $95. That seems rather pricey. My experience is that the clutch masters available at any automotive parts store work fine. The slaves are a different matter entirely, however. That's when you want to contact Rodney.

As olejoedad said - "Get the right part." The early MC won't fit in 86-88 cars....

I got the same Clutch Master Cylinder (Schaeffler LuK model LMC501) that Patrick is suggesting at $40 delivered.

AND

The Fiero Store 86-88 Clutch Master Cylinder is THE SAME ITEM (Schaeffler LuK model LMC501) at $95 plus shipping.

TRY to Return It and Matt (TFS) may charge you their 20% restocking fee......

Matt at TFS:
As a courtesy, we often don't assess that 20% fee in the first month unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Thanks guys. I'll return it and get the right part. I was trying to avoid the $95 price tag from TFS. Just going to order the LMC501 that Vintage-Nut suggested

The early clutch master can fit the late model cars. Just need to carefullly rebend the tubing. I like the early master better because they are easy to bleed using the pedal. I have only been able to bleed late model master with vacuum.
