Power window bushings? (Page 1/2) |

Has anyone found a source for the bushings on the sissor assembly for the power windows?
It’s the bushings that rotates in the tracks.
What I found out is the bushing (wheel) will seize and won’t rotate, making it not turn freely, and making an annoying sound while putting the window up.

I had the same issue when refurbishing my '84 Chevy K10, but be warned....
The Chevy part is called 'Roller & Rivet' (bushings/wheels) and they were frozen too.
I brought the parts like fierosound linked; removed the old rivets out but I 'failed' to expand the new rivets properly.
Creating a new "head" on the tail end by 'smashing' the material flatter was very difficult. You need a press and dies to do the job properly.
My best solution was to buy new scissor assemblies which were called 'regulators'.
Edit: Dorman's 74430 Window Rollers comes a package of 3 rollers:
TWO rivet type and ONE type with threads a nut.....[This message has been edited by Vintage-Nut (edited 08-17-2023).]

my solution was to painstakingly un-seize the roller manually with a lot of spray and time, then grease the heck out of it.
The Dorman option is likely better than that.

I don't have a picture, but I used a chisel to stamp a "+" on the end to expand it and lock it in place.

I'm not arguing....
My Chevy window roller rivets were 'solid' while the Dorman's 74430 rivet photos show they're 'hollow' which may be easier to expand them.
The roller still needs support under the head of the rivets as hamming the chisel, which I said "was very difficult" to me.....

The roller shrink and won't move over time. Wrong oil/grease only makes this worse if even seems to work right now.
Many carefully pry off Dorman rollers then replace OE roller and lube w/ brake grease that doesn't attack plastic. Permatex Green brake grease is better then silicon. That way don't replace the pivots as most of them are ok.
If careful, can try to pry off OE rollers but is old and can break getting off or on after cleaning etc to make them roll again.------------------ Dr. Ian Malcolm: Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should. (Jurassic Park)

I want to chime in with a bit of info on the other rollers on our windows. My window was not working correctly (Manual window) drag and noise- found out that the roller in the vertical track was not spinning properly. I found a Dorman replacement...drilled out the old stud/roller assembly and installed the new Bolt-on part...but the Stud is longer than the original; Although it works ok, it is definitely not correct and more force needed to roll the window up.
But what really fried my fritters was that shortly after all of this, I found a post somewhere about replacing that roller- You can pry the new roller off, and snap it in place rather than removing the (Proper-length) old stud.
Keep this in mind if you are ever replacing that stud/roller!

I've posted this before here about the Dorman part:
"Unfortunately the diameter of the dorman roller is smaller than the Fiero's. I don't know if it makes a difference."
88 Fiero manual window rollers measured OD = 1.083"
Dorman 74430 OD = .95" to .97"
I pulled off my old rollers, cleaned them thoroughly, re-greased them and reinstalled them. They work like new.
Here is the tool I used to remove the old rollers:
I used a bench vise to reinstall them. I hope this info helps you.
