Gen-1, V6/60 Aluminum Cyl Heads - Anyone know? (Page 1/1)

Hey guys... years ago... thinking over at least a decade now, I remember learning and talking about the prototype Gen 1, V6/60 aluminum cyl heads. They are cyl heads that are 100% identical to our Fiero cyl head casting, but have hardened valve seats and made of aluminum. GM made these for a short period of time, along the same time that they were selling the all aluminum 3.4 V6/6 block from GM Performance Parts. The aluminum cyl heads were FAR less common than the aluminum engine block, and I think they made less than 50 of them (a pair of 25). I remember seeing a pair of unused ones (had not been sized for valves yet), and they sold on eBay for $500. I didn't have that kind of expendable income at the time.

Anyone know if these are still available in any way, or if anyone reproduces these? Just curious...
Thanks!

Have you set up a daily search on eBay for these? On Google too? You can catch rare things when they pop up that way, otherwise, it is just hit 'n miss. If you set it up, they will come ...

GM Performance parts #10048649
"Production "Generation II" V6/60 transverse-mounted engined have aluminum cylinder heads with spalyed intake and exhaust valvrs. This canted valve enhances cylinder breathing by unshrouding the valves at maximum lift. The high-velocity intake runners and heart-shaped combustion chambers promote swirl in the cylinders for efficient combestion. Spark plugs are centrally located in the chambers"
Technical Notes: Aluminum cylinder heads are recommended for Midget racing classes and other applications where lightweight engines are preferred. Aluminum V6/60 heads are machined to 1.72" diameter intake valves and 1.42" exhaust valves"

(1994 GM Performance Parts Catalog)

Typically the casting number will be the same or very close to the part number.

The catalog also lists the Bow Tie aluminum block #10051141

Nah... not really. At one point I really cared, just curious if anyone knew anything about them. I haven't seen them in a LOOONG time. I'm not sure really what difference it would make at this point. Maybe 50 pounds? But if I saw a set, I'd probably buy them for my 3.4.

These were actually GEN-1 heads... not the newer GEN-2 heads. They were IDENTICAL to the cyl heads we have on our Fieros... only difference is that they were aluminum. There were only a few of them made... can't remember what I wrote above... but they were very limited. I think GM was considering selling them, but then figured what's the point since you can bolt the Gen-2 heads to the Gen-1 block like many people here have done.

You might be thinking about the Potter castings. Check over at realfierotech they might have more info.
