Searched for old threads on this, couldn't find much. What are the best ways to get a F40 transmission?
I found a site that sells them used for $1500. Seems steep.
I find them on ebay, found 1 that's brand new (0 miles) for $1200 shipped.
I look at the wikipedia article for the trans https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_F40_transmission and it doesn't look good. Most of those cars haven't been sold here, or are just a couple model years, or stuff you expect wouldn't have manual trans in large numbers.
I thought, according to that article, that the Chevy Cruze was the best bet. 2013+ it says the 1.8L came with a F40. But I cannot find anything on the Cruze forum to confirm this. Everything I see there says they came with different options of the weaker M32 6-speed.
So my searching and using https://www.car-part.com seems to indicate the best bet now is the 2011-2013 Buick Regal? I can find plenty of those on car-part. One good candidate near me is $750 for 1 with 66k miles. The ebay parts seem to come from these Buick Regals too.
Just, when I think "Buick Regal" I don't think "6-speed manual transmission" lol

Only the 2006-2007 G6 application will have the F40 with the GM Metric Bellhousing. None of the others will bolts to the typical engines swapped into Fieros (unless you are swapping in an ecotec).

Can't you use an adapter plate? Seems easier to do that than find the few G6's left that have a manual trans. There's basically nothing on car-part or eBay if you're only looking for a G6. There's loads of Buick Regal F40s.[This message has been edited by sdgdf (edited 09-15-2023).]

Ok it looks like there's a lot more different on the ecotec F40. But ok, how do I find a G6 F40? Buy a G6 parts car or pay attention to pullapart? It looks like its rare, either an 06 GTP or a 07 GT? It could take months to wait for one of those to appear at the pullaparts around me.

By the time you develop an adapter plate and the custom flywheel for it, you will be $$$ ahead to just pay more for the 2006-2007 G6 F40.
There are still many people sitting on them for future swaps or as spares, they just have to be motivated to part with them.
If I was looking for a 3rd one, my strategy would be to offer $2500 for one of the zero mile units in the mall and a few other places. If that didn't get me one in a week, I would offer $3,000.
The days of the zero mile F40 shipped to your door for $500 are long gone.

To clarify... The only F40 that will fit our engines is the one that came in a G6 with the 3.9 V6 engine. GTs (maybe), GTPs and GXPs. 06 and 07 only. If you go to car-part.com and search "2006 Pontiac G6 / transmission / MT" and "2007 Pontiac G6 / transmission / MT" you'll find everything that's out there. (The gearing is a bit different from 06 to 07.) You can sort by distance from your home zip code.
Edit - car-part lumps the 06 and 07 together. The closest F40 is in Tampa. They want $1000,[This message has been edited by Raydar (edited 09-17-2023).]

Manual transmissions are a technology whos time has past. They have been gradually phased out and they are no longer available in the vast majority of new automobiles. I realize that there are die hard stick fans here but the solution may be going with a more available automatic.
