Cast iron clutch lever (Page 1/1)

Hi guys, I have a cast iron clutch lever I want to install on my GT 4 speed.

I would like to use a new bolt. Is there a known replacement or should I just match one up at the hardware store.

Also can the bolt be stainless? I don’t know if it will mix with iron as well as what it attaches to on the transmission which is an unknown to me..

Please advise, thank you

Just a bump here, this is getting confusing, according to this chart below cast iron and stainless is a no no. But so is cast iron and steel, I'm assuming the clutch fork is made of steel..

Anyone ??

Just match up the bolt with a hardware store. Haven't looked at a stock Fiero manual transmissions in years, but I assume it will be a M8 sized bolt.

You can use a stainless bolt for that application. In 20 years when you want to change it again, it might need to be cut off, but that is of little concern.

Ok Thanks for that, one more question please.

When installing a new clutch lever does it go on in one position only or does it need to be properly adjusted ?

thanks

No idea, been too long since I have messed with one, but the relationship between the arm and the fork fingers on the inside is important.

It "should" have a missing tooth or some other means to properly position it via the splines.
I would recommend scribing the old one to the shaft prior to removal. Then you can transfer the scribe to the new one and keep it lined up, even if the splines don't do it for you.

Good idea, thanks.

I really hate to mess with it but I know what’s going to happen if I don’t.

It's been so long since I've messed around with a clutch lever... but looking at this image I found online, I suspect there's a notch in the shaft (which allows the bolt to pass through) that prevents the lever from being positioned incorrectly. But don't quote me on that.

Let us know what you find when you get in there!

I was thinking that too, I sure hope so. And I hope it’s the same for both levers.

Thanks guys much appreciated..

FYI for those who asked the clutch lever can only go on one way.
