wheel and tire fitment (Page 1/1)

I want to install 26.5" 245-50-17 rear tires and 25.7" 205-60-16 front on my 86 SE with stock suspension. Is this possible? If so, what wheel dimensions (backspace, offset and width) are recommended?

You will run into problems; I have 16 x 7 wheels (38 mm offset) and 205 and 225/55 tires...Had some 215/60-15s up front thru the 90s.....The biggest tires were close to rubbing the fenders when compressing the suspension.

Two things I'd like to point out;

A) I changed from crappy 15 x 7 wheels to the 16 x 7 VOXX Monza wheels- they were actually 3 lbs lighter...I also went from the 215/60 to a 205/55 which took an additional 3 lbs of each front wheel- the car went from driving like a tractor (I drove a tractor at work, so I know) to driving like a modern car...Total unsprung/rotational weight change was 18 lbs. (Lesson; Keep your wheel/tire package >>LIGHT<< if YOU want to enjoy DRIVING the car.

B) The new "vette" weighs approx' 3600-3700 lbs (Yikes!!) Our Fieros weigh approx' 2700-2800 depending on options. That is a ratio of 1/1.33...My 205s up front equal 275 wide tires thru that ratio....My rear 225s equal 300 wide tires. Big tires look cool (Believe me, I was nuts for super wide tires for years)...But will make the car drive crappy...Try to strike a balance between super-wide and light-weight.

I got ahold of Tirerack and they sold me 17 x 8 wheels with the correct offset to work on my 85 GT. I am running 235 40 17 rear and 215 40 17 front ( Yokohama Advan Fleva ) Lots of clearance , they look great and perform well. sleek

Thank you for the rapid responses and I appreciate the advice. While I have no practical experience driving tractors, I have driven all kinds and sizes of busses. I don't want my car to drive like a bus. I want the car to drive as good as possible while filling the rear wheel wells some and giving the car a little more attitude. Will (26.25") 235-50-17s fit in back? The chart probably answers this but we are still trying to understand each other. I would use 205-55-16 up front. Thanks, Clancy

235 50 17 will throw you speedo out of wack. 235 40 17 give the same circumference as the stock Fiero GT tires.
