Both Engines have been removed... (Page 1/1)

Hello, I am in the middle of swapping the default 2.8L V6 in my 1986 Fiero GT to a 2002 Series II NA 3800. I have removed both engines from their respective cars, and I'm thinking of buying an engine crane and stand instead of renting one. Since I would have less time to worry about returning the crane on time, are there any tips on working on the NA 3800 Series II? I'd like to take my time with it since once it's back in the car I don't plan on taking it out. The major things I'm thinking of are replacing every gasket, and replacing what are known as the plastic plenums. If you have any additional tips please comment.

I did the 3800sc swap and replaced all gaskets, sensors, etc and could never get the oil pan to stop leaving a film of oil on the bottom and a drop of oil clinging on to each pan bolt. Re-torking each bolt to the point of twisting the heads off did not stop it. Just a few weeks ago I stumbled across a post by Darth on this site that explained why. Those oil pans were improperly stamped. Darth's solution was to use Gray RTV on each side of the pan gasket.
I haven't done the work yet and If memory serves I only have to loosen "Rodgers" front engine mount and move it aside to get the pan off.

only suggestion is to make sure your engine has oil pressure after replacing the gaskets and seals. See DarthFiero's post

Which transmission are you using ?

I did have a 3800 NA in my car and it worked awesome, it is what the Fiero GT should have had for HP and torque from Factory.

This is a 1999 NA 3800 with the 4spd auto acceleration.
